Opening Address for
The 2018 Tzu Chi‐Academia Sinica Biomedical Conference

Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all, on behalf of Tzu Chi University, I would like to extend my heartiest welcome and my deepest appreciation to all of our distinguished guests, delegates and participants, to attend the 2018 Tzu Chi ‐ Academia Sinica Biomedical Conference, and witnessing the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Institute of Medical Sciences, Tzu Chi University, and Shanghai Institute of Immunology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
This conference is, originally an annual conference for our Institute of Medical Sciences to demonstrate and review faculty members and Ph.D. candidates’ research performance. This year, due to Tzu Chi’s extending collaboration with numerous researchers and institutes of Academia Sinica, we are honored to have several speakers from Academia Sinica. It is
also our great pleasure that several outstanding scientists from the United States, Japan, China, and Thailand join us to provide more cross‐field discussions and possible collaborations to this biomedical conference.
We are facing more challenges in the biomedical fields now, which requires scientists in different specialties to work together to seek solutions. I hope, after this conference, interaction will be made easier through online discussions, mutual lab visits, and regional meetings, to achieve impactful scientific achievements. I also wish you have fruitful
discussions ahead, and enjoy your stay in Hualien.

Thank you very much for attending this conference.

Pen‐Jung Wang, President, M.D./Ph.D.
